A new feature for my blog, built using my voice
While cooking, Simon Willison talked through a feature for his existing Django blog: list free and sponsor newsletters together, show only public monthly content in search, and keep private content gated. Codex translated mid-sentence changes to the plan into a model, importers and pages. Willison checked a local visual preview as the work progressed.
At pull-request review, he found a Git-subprocess importer that did not suit his deployment or private source repository. He switched to typed prompts, replaced it with an API-based import, configured a read-only private-repository token and adjusted the display before merging. The index and one public monthly page are live. He reports roughly half an hour of voice work and another half hour typing and reviewing, not unattended delivery.
This is one owner-built feature, with no independent requester, comparison against a typed-only build, model bill or later import-repair history. The public page verifies rendering, not every privacy and search rule. The review correction is the point: a plausible preview did not settle how the feature would run in production.
